"...The most important thing I learned is this thing that is still surprising when I tell other people, which is, that as you improve health in a society, population growth goes down." -- Bill Gates, The Gates Foundation

The Problem

Every minute of every day, 20 children die somewhere in the world, and two-thirds of these deaths could be readily averted by existing preventative strategies. Children die because of stagnated progress, missed opportunities, and growing inequities in provision of basic services – in short, a Worldwide Public Health Disaster. These children die by the millions from conditions that rarely touch children in rich countries.

Except in rare isolated cases, measles, diarrhea, malaria, pneumonia, and malnutrition no longer claim the lives of children in the industrialized world. But in poor countries, these five conditions kill more than 10 million children a year, that is 30,000 every day, 1 every 3 seconds.

We don't hear about their deaths because no one major event brings photographers and reporters to their lands. But their lives are precious, and the skills and talents they could bring to the future are lost with each sad death.

The Lucress Watson and Dick Watson Children's Foundation is dedicated to bringing essential medicines and supplies to the very poorest children in the world. We've created a remarkable, cost-efficient program to deliver health care to some of the most remote places on earth, so that more children can grow up in good health.

Our unique approach brings essential medicines and basic supplies to children through local organizations. These qualified, trained health care promoters within the local organization, usually faith based, can diagnose and treat the children in their village. (80% of all child deaths can be prevented in the village.)

Our goal is to bring a steady supply of essential medicines to children who don't have ready access to modern medical care--kids who live in extremely remote rural areas.

Together, we can save cherished lives, and bring hope and health to a new generation.
